It's not without its moments, of course, as the film is over so quick that you don't really have enough time to overthink about what is going on here. This movie isn't meant for me, but I can see those it is meant for enjoying it tremendously. And while I wouldn't call it good, I think it accomplishes its purpose for the most part. It's something that is to be quick and easily digested for families. It has no real grand ambitions of being considered among the best that animated films has to offer. This movie doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. Well that's what this feels like except, obviously, it was released in theaters. Nickelodeon, where this series airs, with some of their previous animated series, sometimes did a special one-hour episode that was treated like a TV movie. Perhaps the only thing holding this back, in my view, is that it really feels an extension of the TV series as opposed to a full-on, standalone film. Maybe they'll love 90 minutes of insufferable, incessant and incoherent babbling. I think people who love the Minions are gonna be in for a rude awakening. At the very least, unlike the upcoming Minions movie, this is a spin-off that, while not truly necessary, these are actual characters and not just insufferable and gimmicky side characters who speak in a nonsensical language.
